(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — New information emerged Monday about a fatal shooting outside the Morgan Park District police station on the Southwest Side.

Just after 8 p.m. Sunday, a man and woman were traveling in a car northbound on South Vincennes Avenue near Monterey Avenue when a grey Chrysler began pursuing them and someone inside fired several shots, Chicago police said.

The victims were on the phone with the city's 9-1-1 center as bullets continued to be fired at them, 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea said. They managed to pull into the police station driveway, but the bullets kept coming.

"There was a bullet that went into a window of the police. The garage door was struck multiple times, significant damage to the side of the building from multiple bullets. Just another example of the urban terrorists that are wreaking havoc across our city," O'Shea said.

Police say a 46-year old woman in the car was killed. The 42-year old man with her suffered a graze wound.

Ald. O'Shea says it's tragic the couple was doing the right thing by heading to the police station where people know to go when they're in trouble.

The alderman says it was a "terrible tragedy" in the Morgan Park community.

He says police officers heard the gunshots and rushed outside to offer help to the victims.
