(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Lord and Taylor at Old Orchard, in its 115,000 square-foot space, closed five years ago. On Tuesday, the property's owners announced a few businesses will be taking over much of the vacant space.

Among the businesses was Arhaus, which  will take 24,000 square feet, while Zara's going to get 40,000 square feet. Zara, a fashion brand, will be relocating from its current space at Old Orchard.

Puttshack, a mini-golf company, had already announced that it will take 30,000 square feet of the old Lord and Taylor space in 2024.

Many mall owners are trying to create unique, entertainment spaces to replace what used to primarily be shops.

Officials said the redevelopment of Lord and Taylor is part of a multi-phase plan, first announced in 2022, which includes the creation of a public park, an event space and the development of new residences, among other things.

Following that announcement, Old Orchard General Manager Serge Khalimsky told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that the plan was "to evolve Westfield Old Orchard into a micro-cityscape against the backdrop of Chicago."
