CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two people are dead, and two others were wounded, including a seven-year-old boy, after a shooting in East Garfield Park yesterday.
Chicago police said three men and the boy were standing in a vacant lot near 5th and Whipple when a car pulled up and someone inside started shooting. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon and, when it was over, two men, ages 33 and 31 were killed, while a 38-year-old man was initially hospitalized in critical condition. The boy suffered a graze wound.
Neighbor Jerri Young told CBS-2 she was surprised to learn of the shooting.
“Most of the people who live in this area know and care about each other. That’s the way it has always been. And so, they come drive up and tell me a kid got shot down there, I’m shocked,” Young said.
The boy’s mother identifies him as Aden Corothers, and he was playing with a scooter with family members before the shooting.
