One more night of bitter cold in store for Chicago, NWS says

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Wind chill temperatures were once again expected to be well below zero in the Chicago area on Saturday night, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned.

NWS Chicago said low temperatures would range from 0 degrees to minus 18 degrees below zero, with wind chills reaching as low as minus 25 degrees below zero. The coldest temperatures were expected west of the Fox River.

As a result, NWS officials issued a wind chill advisory for McHenry, DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle and Grundy Counties starting 12 a.m. Sunday. The advisory will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday.

Officials warned that the conditions could cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes.

Residents were encouraged to limit their times outside, cover all exposed skin, bring pets inside and let their faucets drip slowly.

The weather will start to warm up, with highs getting into the 40s later this coming week. Unfortunately, the warmer weather will be accompanied by freezing rain.
