(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – About 150 sites have been announced for this year’s Open House Chicago, an annual celebration of architecture and history that grants visitors rare access to amazing locations across the city.

The two-day event organized by the Chicago Architecture Center will be held Oct. 14 and 15.

Among the highlights this year are opportunities to visit:

-the Hermosa house where Walt Disney was born in 1901 and where he lived until he was 5 years old

--the Chicago Filmmakers Building in Edgewater, a onetime firehouse built in the late 1920s that is now a media-arts hub.

-the Avalon Regal Theater in South Chicago. The Moorish Revival building opened in 1927 and has been mostly unused for 20 years

- the Stone Temple Baptist Church in North Lawndale, where Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. preached regularly.

“Open House Chicago makes architecture and design accessible and is a free program for all,” said Eleanor Gorski, CEO & President, Chicago Architecture Center. “The event is a true community venture, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with chambers of commerce, neighborhood organizations, arts and culture organizations and historical societies across the city to bring the festival to life.”
