ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Northwestern Medicine temporarily closed its Orland Park immediate care center, so staff can shift to a hospital that’s seeing a rise in patient numbers, in part because of an increase in COVID cases.
Northwestern Medicine’s immediate care facility on 153rd and West Avenue was closed late last week, so staff could be deployed to Palos Community Hospital. According to a Northwestern spokesperson, the clinic is expected to reopen Dec. 27, and the immediate care clinic's temporary closing does not affect Northwestern’s other operations at its Orland Park location, which offers a variety of services including diagnostic imaging, laboratory, behavioral health services, nutritional services, and a variety of offices.
The closing prompted a Facebook post by Orland Park’s mayor, apparently before he knew all the facts and commenters let him know what they thought of that.
Mayor Keith Pekau reported the closing on the village’s Facebook page as if it were a permanent closing. A number of people posted that it was temporary, including one woman writing: "Shame on the village for either not collecting the correct information or misleading residents on purpose."
Another person wrote, "More Pekau drama for attention."
The village later provided an update on Facebook, but also asked why the immediate care in Orland was temporarily closed and Northwestern’s Mokena facility was remaining open.
