Drivers who use the Lake Shore Drive Bridge late at night or early in the morning need to be prepared for overnight closures -- starting at 10 PM, Thursday, September 10.

According to 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins, the Chicago Department of Transportation will be conducting center break trimming and electrical testing on the bridge over the next week.

Closures will run every night from 10 PM to 5 AM with the work expected to wrapped up by 5 AM Thursday, September 17, 2026.

During the closures, traffic will be rerouted via E. Wacker Drive, N. Columbus Drive, and E. Illinois Street. CTA bus routes #134, #135, and #136 will also follow this reroute, but no stops will be affected.

CDOT has not indicated if the bridge work is routine or was prompted by last the heat-related malfunction that prevented the bridge from closing for several hours on Wednesday, September 2.
