(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police are investigating after five men apparently overdosed at a bar in Mount Greenwood Sunday, and the local alderman says paramedics saved the mens’ lives with Narcan, the anti-opioid treatment.
“They’re all lucky to be alive,” says 19th Ward Ald. Matthew O’Shea.
O’Shea says he’s concerned the men took something laced with fentanyl. Toxicology reports are pending, he said.
“Because someone out there is selling, distributing this stuff and people are dying. Luckily yesterday that didn’t happen.”
O’Shea says the five men are doing all right now after they were taken to hospitals.
He says in his 12 years as alderman, he’s never heard of something like this happening at an establishment in his ward.
Police say the men were all in their 40s.
O’Shea says they all collapsed at Lawlor’s Bar on 111th Street, an establishment that is considered above-board. The bar recently hosted a benefit for Special Olympics, he said.
