(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two Naperville adults are accused of encouraging and helping their two daughters to attack a middle school classmate earlier this month.
DuPage County prosecutors say Steven Teague, 36, and 30-year-old Terika Thomas face felony charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On April 3, the targeted classmate, a female, was followed to a bus stop by the two minors and their stepfather, Teague, prosecutors said. When the girl walked to the next bus stop, Teague and Thomas and their daughters allegedly followed.
At the next bus stop, the two juveniles allegedly attacked the girl, throwing her to the ground and punching her.
“Teague stood by and watched while Thomas got out of her car and encouraged the juveniles to ‘get her,’” the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
The victim reportedly was not seriously injured.
Both parents have been released on $40,000 bond each. They are due in court next month.
“As parents, we have an obligation to teach our children how to appropriately navigate and resolve conflict,” Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres said. “Fighting is not the answer, and it’s dismaying to me that two adults would set such a poor example for children by encouraging and abetting this behavior.”
