(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Following the resignations from some key departments earlier this month, another long-time public servant is leaving their leadership position.
On Wednesday, Park District Superintendent Rosa Escareño announced her resignation, according to a statement from the Park District.
Escareño has spent 35 years in public service. She was brought into the role of General Superintendent and CEO of the Chicago Park District in 2021 under Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
In a written statement, Mayor Brandon Johnson expresses heartfelt gratitude to Escareño as a lifelong public servant and someone who truly believes the public park should be for the people of Chicago.
In her own statement, she said she's accomplished the goal she set for herself at the parks department.
Prior to that job, she was the respected head of the city's Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Operation.
Earlier this month, Aviation Commissioner Jamie Rhee, Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) Executive Director Jose Tirado and Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten announced their departures.
The shake-up came the week after Mayor Brandon Johnson said he would clean house.
Suggesting some serious policy disagreements in front of a church audience, he said at one point, “if you ain't with us, you gotta go.”
