Police release photos of SUV wanted in Pilsen hit-and-run, woman killed just before wedding

CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) — Chicago police have released surveillance photos of an SUV wanted in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash in the Pilsen neighborhood that killed a 22-year-old woman just before her wedding.

Marcella Herrera was walking with her fiancé along the 1900 block of South Ashland Avenue around 11:15 p.m. on July 19 when they were struck in the crosswalk by a dark-colored Dodge Journey SUV. Police said the vehicle was heading northbound when it hit the couple and fled the scene without stopping.

Herrera died from her injuries, and her 21-year-old fiancé suffered serious injuries.

Authorities said the SUV likely has a broken right headlight and damage to the front right bumper and quarter panel.

Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
