(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Sheriff's deputies in Lake County, Illinois were able to prevent an attack on an elderly woman.
The Lake County Sheriff’s office says that deputies were called to a house on North Lewis Avenue in the area of Beach Road in Beach Park around 4:30 p.m. on Monday for a report of a man with a knife.
The man was reportedly threatening the people in the house, telling everyone they were “going to die,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The man, Keith MacDonald, 33, was a resident of the home.
When deputies arrived, they looked through a window of the home and report they saw MacDonald standing over an elderly woman who was lying on the floor.
Deputies say they immediately forced open a locked door and tackled MacDonald. They were able to successfully take him into custody.
An investigation revealed MacDonald became enraged when he was told he would be evicted from the home. That’s when he allegedly grabbed the knife, chased the woman around the house and threatened to kill her.
Officials say there was a 1-year-old child present at the time of the alleged attack.
MacDonald is now facing the following charges: aggravated battery to a person over 60 years of age, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and child endangerment.
MacDonald appeared in court on Tuesday and was ordered to be held for a detention hearing that will take place tomorrow afternoon.
