CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are now reportedly saying there is no link between the person who murdered two people on the street in Rogers Park a few years ago and a serial killer in northern California.

In the fall of 2018, one day and a few blocks apart, Douglass Watts and Eliyahu Moscowitz were shot to death in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Moscowitz was killed while walking his dogs on Sherwin Avenue and the day before, Watts was killed while walking down on Lunt Avenue. Police believe the two were shot with the same gun by the same person.

According to CBS Chicago and the CBS station in Sacramento, Calif., police in northern California initially believed the same person was responsible for six murders in Stockton and Oakland. California police released a video of the suspect last week and asked people to pay attention to how he walks — with an uneven stride and with his hands in his pockets. It’s the same thing Chicago police had said back in 2018.

Tom Ahern, a Chicago police spokesman, confirmed that detectives from Chicago and California have “discussed their separate investigations and compared details,” but they haven’t found any clear connections, according to the Chicago Sun-Times Wire.

The suspect has been given the nickname "The Duck Walk Killer."
