(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A former Chicago police union president is pushing back against proposed union bylaw changes that include giving the current president an extra two years to his term.
Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 President John Catanzara says he wants his term extended from three years to five by changing the bylaws and constitution of the union.
He argues that would give him and future presidents a chance to complete long-term goals. He also says it would save money on union elections, which cost more than $200,000 per cycle.
But former FOP President Kevin Graham tells the Chicago Sun-Times that Catanzara’s proposals amount to a power grab.
Union membership will get a chance to vote on the proposals next week.
