(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Thinking about playing the mock-attack game “Senior Assassins”? Don’t, police in north suburban Gurnee say.

Authorities say there could have been dire consequences Tuesday when some area high school students entered a restaurant wearing ski masks and brandishing water pistols that resembled real guns.

The group was targeting other students who were eating at the restaurant, with the idea of spraying them with water. Getting the jump on someone and “tagging” them is the end game of “Senior Assassins,” Gurnee police say.

On Tuesday, an adult at the restaurant was carrying a concealed weapon when the pranksters entered and “mistook the situation for a genuine threat,” police said.

“The gravity of the situation cannot be emphasized enough; it had the potential to lead to serious consequences,” the department said in a social media posting Wednesday.

Police also may choose to file disorderly conduct charges, authorities said. No further information was available on Tuesday’s incident.
