(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle downplayed recent reports that several prosecutors have quit, with one of them taking aim at State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.
James Murphy, a former supervisor in Foxx’s office, was one of a handful of prosecutors to leave recently. He made a splash by writing a letter saying he could no longer continue to work under current leadership.
He said elected leaders seem to be more interested in political narratives rather than with victims or prosecuting violent crime.
Preckwinkle on Wednesday said she does't know Murphy but strongly disagrees with his assessment of the office.
“It’s ironic that the gentleman you refer to — Mr. Murphy — is accusing the state’s attorney of being political. Because the comments that he made sound pretty political,” she said.
Preckwinkle said she sees no reason to talk with Foxx about the departures.
