CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said the county expects vaccine doses for suburban healthcare workers and facilities this month, but the feds will be calling the shots on who's allowed to get them.
Like Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has maintained that government services should be viewed through a lens of equity, with an eye towards making sure that those in need are not pushed aside.
So, she was asked how she'll make sure that's the case with distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, expected to be delivered within a couple of weeks. She said the Centers for Disease Control mandate priorities.
"The CDC has sent out some pretty specific parameters for the distribution of 1A, I think that's what they call it, of the vaccine and it is basically people in nursing homes and people who care for people in nursing homes," she said.
The next level, that she called 1B, includes first responders and employees in essential places, like grocery stores and food processing plants.
Preckwinkle was talking with reporters after announcing that a COVID-19 cash assistance program for essential workers in the suburbs has gotten a multi-million dollar restart.
