SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor Pritzker is downplaying any suggestion of possible capacity limits for businesses as the state grapples with the rise in COVID-19 cases.
After the Governor announced the state’s new vaccine mandate for healthcare workers and educators, and the renewed indoor mask mandate, reporters wanted to know what the next steps might be.
Governor Pritzker was asked if he might consider a return of capacity limits on indoor gatherings if the number of cases and hospitalizations keep going up across the state. His answer was an emphatic, though qualified, “no.”
"Well as I've said, there's obviously a menu of things you've seen us deploy over the course of the last year and a half. That's not something we are currently looking at. I wouldn't hope or anticipate that we would go back to something like that, but again we all know when these numbers get to a place where it gets out of control or a place where we truly can't treat people in hospital, you have to take further steps," Pritzker said.
The vaccine mandate is the focal point now. The numbers show 98 percent of the current cases of coronavirus in Illinois are among unvaccinated people.
