OAK PARK (WBBM Newsradio) -- Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said Friday the Trump Administration owes the American people money, now that the U-S Supreme Court has ruled against his tariff policy.

The Governor has been a vocal critic of the White House's tariff strategy, which he says has hurt the state's industries, especially Illinois agriculture. And during an appearance at Oak Park and River Forest High School, 201 N. Scoville Ave., the governor told reporters the bill has come due.

"Donald Trump owes the families of the United States and families of the state of Illinois what seems to be about $2,000 for the illegal tariffs that he put on them," said the governor. "I want to know how he's going to provide that money for the taxpayers."

He also said he's concerned that the Supreme Court ruling might not be the last word: "(President Trump)'s now saying he's got some secret plan to impose tariffs or something like tariffs. He just wants to keep them going somehow. It seems like that's illegal because the Supreme Court has now ruled that he acted unconstitutionally."

And when reporters asked if he was surprised by the ruling, he said he's always surprised when a Trump-appointed Supreme Court follows the Constitution.
