(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Gov. JB Pritzker seemed unfazed Tuesday by any legal challenges to his latest school mask mandate in the face of increasing COVID-19 cases across the state.

A downstate lawyer has filed a lawsuit who has previously challenged the governor's authority on masks. This lawyer has lost previously, Pritzker noted at an unrelated bill-signing.

"Mandatory masks in schools, that's something that we had before," Pritzker said. "And certainly we are still in an emergency. I think we can all see that the Delta variant is beginning to take overtake parts of the country."

As for how schools will enforce the mandate, he notes that they have dress codes they maintain.

Last week, Pritzker said all students, teachers and staff in daycares and preschool through 12th grades will be required to wear masks indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.
