CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that it is investigating three potential cases of voter fraud tied to mail-in ballots requested for people who may be deceased.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said his office has investigated six other cases and concluded no criminal charges would be filed in those six instances.
“Fair elections are the bedrock of our democracy and my office stands ready to investigate, charge, and vigorously prosecute anyone who would attempt to interfere in any way with our elections.” Berlin said
The investigations are the result of in-depth training and coordinated efforts between the State’s Attorney’s Office and DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek’s Office. Each of the cases alleges that the Clerk’s office received a request for a mail-in-ballot from a DuPage County resident who is no longer alive. The Clerk’s office received the requests from Sept. 1 through Sept. 26.

On Oct. 19, DuPage County opened eighteen early voting locations throughout the county. These locations will be open Monday through Saturday with a select few open on Sundays.
“With the opening of our satellite voting locations, I want to make it perfectly clear that my office will do what is necessary to ensure that every voter is allowed to exercise their right to vote, either in person or vote-by-mail and to have their vote counted,” Berlin continued. “Additionally, any allegations of fraud, bullying, intimidation or any other activities designed to influence or otherwise harass voters will not be tolerated. These are all serious violations of the law which carry felony penalties. I would like to thank Clerk Kaczmarek and her staff for bringing these matters to our attention and for their assistance and cooperation throughout the investigations. Their efforts have gone a long way in protecting the integrity of the election process.”
