CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The first in a series of public meetings to gather input on the next Chicago Police Superintendent will take place Tuesday evening on the west side.
The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability is tasked by ordinance with ultimately forwarding three candidates to the mayor.
First, it will listen to what citizens have to say.
The first meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at the Kehrein Center for the Arts on the 5600 block of West Washington Boulevard.
The Commission said, in a statement, it’s “looking for a visionary leader that has, at a minimum, demonstrated experience in leading: proactive public-safety initiatives, advances in training and accountability, and increasing trust between police officers and the communities they serve.”
The commission will review applications, interview candidates, conduct background checks, and choose the top three candidates.
The mayor will then pick one or send the commission back to do it all over again.
