(WBBM NEWSRADIO) –  The City of Chicago notified Ald. Nicole Lee (11th) this past week of plans to move migrants from downtown to Bridgeport ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

The plans being considered would move migrants from the former Standard Club on South Plymouth Court in the Loop to a new temporary site in the 3900 block of South Canal Street in Bridgeport.

In an update to her constituents, Lee said the city has not signed a lease for the property yet and that she met with Mayor Brandon Johnson to express her opposition.

Her three main points against placing a shelter at this site revolve around safety pending approval for its use as residential, a lack of justification, and it being a problematic location due to active train lines and a manufacturing district.

In addition, Lee says that she has asked the mayor to pursue a proper community engagement process before moving forward.
