'We will always be a welcoming city': Religious leaders join several aldermen in voicing support for Chicago's migrants

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Activists, clergy and several aldermen are speaking up for migrants and the city's sanctuary status.

"The reality is that there is enough for everyone in Chicago," said Pastor JeVon Moore with Bryn Mawr Community Church.

He stood with others at Chicago City Hall who are supportive of Chicago's sanctuary status.

"The welcoming sign on our country and one of our most notable statues reminds us to 'give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,'" said Moore.

"We won't tolerate the tactics of the right to divide our communities," 26th Ward Ald. Jessie Fuentes said. "We are a welcoming city, here in the city of Chicago. We will always be a welcoming city."

Fuentes said there's a moral obligation to support migrants, noting,
"The very fabric of the city of Chicago is a story of migration."
