(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The remains of an Army corporal from Des Plaines -- who died in the Korean War and until earlier this year was listed as Missing in Action -- are returning to Northern Illinois.
William Zoellick was 18 when he was captured in North Korea and later died as a prisoner of war.
North Korea handed over his remains in 1954, but they were unidentified and buried at a military cemetery in Hawaii.
Earlier this year, the military was able to identify his remains through modern genetic tests and other methods.
The military delivered the news to Arthur Zoellick of Belvidere, William's nephew.
“It’s a little bit mind-blowing,” he said.
Arthur Zoellick is working with the military to bring his uncle's remains to Belvidere for burial with full honors.
