(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – U.S. Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, who finished fourth in last month’s mayoral contest, is backing Brandon Johnson in the two-candidate April 4 runoff.

Garcia made the announcement Friday in his base of Little Village, calling Johnson, a Cook County commissioner, “a leader that is committed to equity, to inclusion and coalition-building.”

Johnson took second place in the Feb. 28 city election, behind frontrunner Paul Vallas.

Vallas held his own news conference Friday during which he warned Johnson’s public safety policies would be disastrous. Vallas said the people who voted for Garcia wouldn’t have voted for him, anyway.
