(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In the Republican race for DuPage County Board Chairman, Greg Hart says his experience and record prove he’s the better choice to take over for the retiring Dan Cronin.

Hart, who is wrapping up his first full term on the board, said crime and justice continue to be top priorities.

The District 3 representative said he’s voted to increase funding for the sheriff’s police and supports more police across the county. But reducing crime is not just about enforcement, he said.

He said county government needs to do more about mental health before a crisis occurs that involves police. He said he would like to see a new intake center for mental health cases.

His GOP Primary opponent Pete DiCianni has been outspoken on crime. DiCianni got into a shouting match with protesters at a pro-police demonstration and had a profane email exchange with a critic.

DuPage County States Attorney Bob Berlin — a Hart supporter — has distanced himself from some of DiCianni’s remarks.

Hart says his own record chairing two County committees speaks for itself. He said he’s won awards, while DiCianni was forced to quit a committee chairmanship amid controversy.

Hart is the guest on this weekend’s edition of “At Issue,” which airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
