SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For all the talk of bipartisanship this spring, no Republican voted for the more than $50 billion budget lawmakers created this week.

In fact, three Democrats voted no: Sens. Doris Turner (D-Springfield), Suzy Glowiak-Hilton (D-Western Springs), and Patrick Joyce (D-Reddick).

In the end, Republicans said the more than 3,400-page document reflects only Democrats’ priorities.

Minority Leader John Curran cited the Invest in Kids Scholarship program as something that Democrats shorted.

"We're voting no to this expansion of government and misplaced investments in the state's tax dollars."

"I share your disappointment that we weren't able to resolve every non-budget issue, but I'm also disappointed that a failure to resolve non-budget issues prevents a unanimous vote on a responsible balanced budget," Senate President Don Harmon said in response.

The budget bill goes to the House, where the final reading can be no earlier than Saturday. It’s possible that vote will be taken just after midnight Saturday morning.
