(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Republicans in Milwaukee say they experienced a powerful and party unifying moment Monday night, when former President Donald Trump made an appearance on stage at the Republican National Convention to an emotional standing ovation.
Julia Black is an RNC delegate from South Carolina, she said she looks forward to Trump's speech, which is scheduled for Thursday at the FiServe Forum. She is among many in Milwaukee who say they are onboard with the toning down of harmful rhetoric.
"You know, at the end of the day, we are all Americans. We love our country and we like each other. Even when we're disagreeing, we still like each other and we're still family, basically," Black said.
"And it doesn't matter how you got here where you came from, we're all Americans, we're all in this together."
On the Milwaukee RiverWalk, just a few minutes from the RNC Plaza downtown, Milwaukee resident Barry Charles spoke with WBBM. He is not a guest at the convention, but is well aware that Trump did make an appearance just two days after an assassination attempt.
"In my opinion, it makes me very proud because he's a tough guy and most people I don't think would do that. I think very, very impressive," Charles said.
Barry Dolan of Iowa was also impressed.
"I think it was an incredibly powerful moment to see our former president, and I'm hoping the future president, take the stage, be so powerful, be so forceful," Dolan said.
Dolan, like many, witnessed the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania live on TV, and thinks that Mr. Trump showed tremendous character in his recovery.
"Incredibly powerful, I would argue heroic."
