CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Riot Fest is taking place this weekend in North Lawndale amid concerns from residents, who say they're not going to stop speaking up.
For the eight years Riot Fest has been held in Douglass Park, 30-year North Lawndale resident Anton Adkins said he's been fighting against what he calls a "slap in the face" to the community.
"That frustrated feeling is there. Here we go again- all the cars down our block. I have three young girls. We love to go to the park, but we're only sectioned off in certain locations."
Besides traffic, Adkins said he's worried about health and safety, as Douglass Park is next door to two hospitals.
But he said he and other activists will continue fighting as long as they have to.
"We now don't have to just suffer through it anymore," he added.
"We can do something about it and that's the message that we've been trying to put forth since we organized and started to get this message out to remove these festivals from this public place."
