CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There was another day of protest in Chicago after Friday's Supreme Court decision allowing individual states to determine abortion laws. Dozens rallied in downtown for abortion access, but there are two separate discussions taking place in Illinois.
At a south loop press conference and Representing a Conservative Public Interest Law Firm based in Chicago, Rita Gitchell Special Counsel for the Thomas More Society said that giving an individual the right to abortion opens the door to defend other behaviors.
"The attempt to justify abortion in cases under a broad right to define one's meaning and existence and their own definition of liberty. If that was really upheld, what would stop prostitution, illicit drug use and other matters?"
Meanwhile in Federal Plaza, among thousands looking to uphold access to abortion and wearing a pride t-shirt, Chicago native Angel Alvarez said that taking away that right, he and many others fear could lead to the loss of a broader spectrum of personal decisions.
"For example, Justice Clarence Thomas has been talking about asking the Supreme Court to also reconsider things like same sex marriage...contraceptives."
