The Chicago area can expect a brief warm up Friday, with temperatures forecast to reach above 50 degrees.

But leading up to Friday, temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s, with potential flurries Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

“A little bit of a roller coaster up and down with temperatures,” NWS meteorologist Gino Izzi said of this week.

The chances of snow mid-week have “been going down,” he said. “It’s looking more and more likely that it’s going to miss the Chicago area to the south.”

Friday is forecast for a high of 53 degrees and sunny skies, with an overnight low of 34 degrees. Temperatures will fall back into the 40s and 30s Saturday and Sunday, according to the weather service.

Last week, Chicago experienced spring-like temperatures and a Feb. 16 record high of 65 degrees.
