CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Every employee has felt the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s been especially stressful for those who never went remote.
“There was staff driving in when everything shut down and Woodfield Mall was closed and it was eerie,” said Becky Wyskochil, communications specialist with the village of Schaumburg. “But we were still here behind the scenes making sure that everything was still running for the village.”
As a way to say thank you for their in-person work, the Schaumburg board of trustees approved a “Pandemic Relief Day” at its most recent meeting.

All 547 part-time and full-time village employees will receive a paid day off.
“For almost two years now, our essential workers have demonstrated professionalism and perseverance in their daily efforts to continue serving Schaumburg’s residents, businesses and visitors,” added Wyskochil.
The “Pandemic Relief Day” is scheduled for President’s Day on Feb. 21.
Wyskochil told WBBM Newsradio it’s already a holiday for many of the area school districts and would deliver the maximum benefit with minimum disruption.
Those who must work that day, including first responders, will be able to take a paid day off later in the year.
