ROUND LAKE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some Lake County school districts are working to curb students' academic decline during the coronavirus pandemic.
For many school districts, the 2021 Illinois report card shows a drop in the number of students who met or exceeded grade-level standards in subjects like english and math. It is attributed to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which is why districts like Warren Township District 121 and Round Lake Area Schools District 116 have hired additional interventionists.
Warren Township District 121 is using federal grants, including the American Rescue Plan, to hire social workers and interventionists to identify students who are struggling academically, the Daily Herald reported.
Meantime, Round Lake Area Schools District 116 hired 10 interventionists to help students return to the classroom after learning remotely.
The goal for both districts is to identify students who are struggling and provide additional resources.
