(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There's a new trend among tweens nationwide known as "Sephora Kids,” and it’s creating concerns.

The catch-all phrase denotes a new enthusiasm among some members of Generation Alpha for expensive beauty products and the lengths to which they may go to obtain them.

Specifically, girls between the ages of 10 and 12 have become enthusiastic about skin moisturizers and other goods from watching TikTok videos, says Bob Phibbs, CEO of the Retail Doctor in New York.

“A lot of parents are noticing, and yet it has led to an increase in sales for the beauty brands, because beauty’s hot right now,” he told the Noon Business Hour on Tuesday.

It’s a potential problem, Phibbs said, because many of the products are not appropriate for the young consumers and they can be expensive.

He said influencers who push beauty products don’t have the well-being of youngsters in mind. Phibbs said some parents may want to take their daughters to a retailer and have an associate talk about what the products are supposed to do.

“If you’re going to let them just go free-range, then they can get hurt and we don’t like that,” he said.
