SUGAR GROVE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two people walked away from a hard landing following the failed takeoff of a single-engine plane Thursday morning at the Aurora Municipal Airport.

The Sugar Grove Fire Chief Brendan Moran said the call came in at about 7:30 a.m. It initially sounded worse than it was.

“We were called for a plane crash at the end of the runway. We responded out there and found one aircraft that had a failed takeoff and then a failed landing…wasn’t up in the air for very long…The pilot was able to steer it off to the side of the runway, when it came down it had some damage to the landing gear itself,” Moran said.

The plane came down in a field.  The two people onboard were not injured.

The pilot said the engine stalled on takeoff.
