CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After another disappointing Bears' loss, there may not be much interest in what’s going on inside Soldier Field, but a new holiday pop-up opened Sunday outside of it.
Santa is coming to the south parking lot of Soldier Field. Without fans in attendance, the stadium is able to host Santa's Garage and Drive-In Experience, which opened Sunday on the Waldron upper deck and south parking lot.
It will run every day through Dec. 23 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., even during games, said Soldier Field Spokesman Luca Serra.
But visitors probably won't notice.
"So they would have to listen up really, really well to be able to hear anything that is going on inside the building," he said.
Families will be greeted by Dancer the Reindeer to direct them to their Winter Wonderland escape featuring light displays, decorated trees, and inflatables featuring some of your favorite Christmas icons like the Grinch, Elf on the Shelf, and Rudolph. Guests will then drive through Christmas Tree Lane before arriving at Santa’s Garage where Santa and his helper will be working on his sleigh. Santa needs to stay safe, so he will take a physically distanced picture with the family before they head off to the south lot turned Soldier Field South Pole, where they will receive complimentary hot chocolate and cookies and are welcome to watch “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” on the two giant LED screens - all from your car.
"For little kids there is a scavenger hunt where they can check things off of the list," Serra said.
Masks and advance tickets are required.
Timed tickets are for sale online. A discounted rate for daytime visitors is being offered at $45, while the nighttime rate is $65 per vehicle.
Organizers encourage you to bring a new toy to donate to the Payton Foundation, which is giving them to children in need.
