South Side church gives away gas at Shell gas station

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Another gas giveaway is happening on the South Side, this time it’s at noon Saturday.

The congregation of a church in the Grand Crossing neighborhood pitched in to pay for the gas at a Shell station at 79th and State streets, just off the Dan Ryan Expressway.

“I said guys, ‘We want to bless 200 cars’ and I asked them if a certain number of people, you would give us $25. And they gave it. And they gave it right there on the spot,” John Hannah, senior pastor of New Life Covenant Church Southeast, told CBS 2 Chicago.

The pastor said he believes wherever there’s a need we have a responsibility to meet it.
