Dixmoor lifts boil order after fix to latest water main breaks

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A boil order was lifted in south suburban Dixmoor on Friday, days after a series of water main breaks plagued the local water system.

Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Roberts says the problems began early Monday morning with one water main break.
That soon spiraled into additional breaks in other locations, he said.

Once all of the breaks were fixed, Roberts says the village had to wait for tests to show the water was safe.

The water lines in Dixmoor are more than 100 years old, and it will cost $49.5 million replace them, Roberts said.

Dixmoor will need financial assistance from the federal and state governments as well as Cook County, he said.
