(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Chicago man faces multiple felony charges after he was pulled over for speeding and found to have a firearm and an array of illegal drugs, prosecutors said.

Hector Durruthy, 51, allegedly was traveling 105 miles per hour on Interstate 88 when Illinois state police pulled him over in Oak Brook early Tuesday.

Troopers say they observed an odor of cannabis during the traffic stop and saw loose cannabis “shake” in plain view. During a search of the vehicle, police found a .380 Taurus handgun in an armrest, officials said.

Then they found “multiple controlled substances” that included 44 grams of mushrooms; 6 grams of cocaine; 3 grams of purple methamphetamine; two bags of amphetamine pills; six MDMA (Ecstasy) pills and LSD paper tabs, DuPage County prosecutors said.

Durruthy, who reportedly is a convicted felon, was taken into custody. A judge on Wednesday ordered him held on $250,000 bond for charges of armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon and drug possession, officials said.

“The law is very clear, as a convicted felon Mr. Durruthy is prohibited from possessing a firearm,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, who thanked state police. “Their efforts resulted in removing a dangerous weapon and multiple illegal narcotics from our streets.”
