(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Governor J.B. Pritzker and his highest-spending republican challenger, Richard Irvin, have filed campaign finance records that suggest a costly campaign ahead.
In the first three months of the year, both Ptitzker and Irvin spent about $10 million on advertising, with the primary election only two months away.
The Chicago Tribune reported Irvin has spent about half of the $20 million that he received from billionaire Ken Griffin in February on campaign ads. Griffin has been on the record saying that he will do whatever it takes to defeat Pritzker.
Aside from Griffin’s donation, the Aurora mayor raised about $3 million since announcing his candidacy.
Pritzker deposited $90 million into his campaign fund in January.
Two of Irvin’s rivals for the republican nomination, venture capitalist Jesse Sullivan has spent $1.5 million on advertising and Senator Darren Bailey has spent $400,000.
