(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Northwest Side owners of the chihuahua that was stabbed multiple times on the street Monday are grateful to have him home, after the vet saved his life and hundreds of people came forward to pay the vet bill.
The first signs of trouble that Ana Jasso heard were the screams of her 15-year-old daughter and the cries of her 13-year-old chihuahua, Bebe.
Jasso ran outside the family home near Irving Park and Oak Park to see that someone had stabbed the dog several times.
“He had stab wounds on both sides of his body,” she said.
They managed to subdue the woman they say stabbed the animal and took Bebe to the vet. The Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation put the word out, and 250 people donated money to cover the bill.

Now, Jasso says Bebe is recovering.
“He’s at home in his bed. Just looking at us, sniffing us,” she said, laughing.
A 61-year-old woman was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
