State lawmaker running for congressional seat pushes 'ghost gun' controls

As she kicks her bid for the First Congressional District seat into high gear, State Senator Jacqueline Collins says she’s already passed legislation in Illinois addressing some of the district’s top issues.

Collins says legislation now before the governor could ban the sale of so called "ghost guns" in the state.

Last week in Oak Park River Forest high school student was arrested after he was found with a so called "ghost gun" at school. It was made from a kid and had no serial number.

The Illinois legislature has passed a measure sponsored by state senator Jackie Collins that would ban the sale of firearms without serial numbers, whether in kit form or not. She says those weapons can't be traced.

"These young, 11, 12, 13, 14-year olds, they have access to these parts where they can assemble guns. Even the 3D printer guns are the ones that I will be able to hold accountable by the serialization that's required," Collins said.

How do you keep manufacturers from selling such kits online? Colin says you need federal action. And it's one reason she's running for the first congressional seat being vacated by Bobby Rush.
