Auto giant Stellantis will be breathing new life into its Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant.
As part of a greater $13 (b)billion effort by Stellantis to expand its U.S. production by 50% over the next four years, the automaker intends to invest more than $600 (m)million to reopen the Rockford-area plant which has been idle since 2023.
According to Stellantis starting in 2027, the plant will expand production of the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass for the U.S. market.
The move is expected to create about 3,300 new jobs.
