(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A stranger dressed in black and carrying zip ties and an extension cord followed two boys home in Des Plaines this week, prompting police to issue a public safety alert.

The incident began around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday as two brothers – a 17-year-old and an 8-year-old – were playing at Jaycee Park on Wicke Avenue.
A man estimated to be 30 years old approached them, carrying the cord and zip ties, police said in a news release.

“Before making contact with the children, it appeared that the subject realized that one of the brothers was older and he retreated to his vehicle, a black SUV, with silver rims and tinted windows,” authorities said in a statement.

The stranger followed the children home and left once they entered their residence. The father of the boys contacted police later in the evening, but officers could not locate the vehicle or suspect.

Police said no crime was committed, but they are still asking the public for help if they have additional information or surveillance video.

The number to call is (847) 391.5457.
