CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Racers may be starting their engines a month from now in downtown, but between now and then, you can expect plenty of “no parking” and “road closed” signs to pop up.
The NASCAR Chicago Street Race is July 1 and 2 and will result in a slew of street closures and parking restrictions. The first one, today, includes parking restrictions on southbound Columbus Drive between Jackson and Balbo.
Meanwhile, a Chicago alderman has called for a hearing to take place in order to question NASCAR officials about the street closures and traffic disruptions.
1st Ward Ald. Daniel LaSpata tells Crain’s that there’s a lot of frustration over the NASCAR race because it’ll impact how people get around downtown for weeks. He said it’s the City Council’s job to provide oversight.
