(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A student at the University of Illinois has been charged after two other students were stabbed last week.

It happened at about 2 a.m. last Friday morning in an alley behind Kam's, a bar just off campus popular with students.

Police have said there was a verbal altercation that escalated. One student was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen. The second had a slash wound. Neither student had any life-threatening injuries.

Those involved were gone when police arrived.

A student — 20-year-old Brandon Lee, of Champaign — is now charged with aggravated battery. He turned himself in with a lawyer.

University police said surveillance video shows the confrontation.

"The two victims advanced on Lee, who was armed with a knife," a statement from the department read.

That would suggest a self-defense argument.
