(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Officials in west suburban St. Charles say they’ve had enough with the shuttered site of the former Pheasant Run Resort and want it torn down.

Calling it a matter of safety, city officials say they’ve issued a 15-day notice of intent to sue for demolition of the property. There was a fire on the property over the weekend, the second such incident there in the past 15 months.

“We have been pressing the property owner to remedy the deficient safety and security conditions at the site; however, the owner’s efforts have not produced sufficient results,” Mayor Lora Vitek said in a news release. “Now we are taking more aggressive measures to prompt swift action.”

Vitek said the city wants all of the vacant buildings demolished so that the site can be cleared for redevelopment. The resort there closed in March 2020.

The property is owned by Saint Charles Resort, LLC, out of Miami Beach, Fla., officials said. WBBM Newsradio has reached out for comment.
