(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A southwest suburban school district faces a civil lawsuit over a hazing incident that allegedly took place in the football team locker room two years ago.
Attorney Ian Fallon on Monday said the practice at Plainfield Central high School was called "Code Blue," and coaches were aware of the long time ritual.
A lawsuit filed in federal court says two freshman members of the football team were surrounded older team members, pinned to the ground and sexually assaulted.
"The dreadful experience suffered by these two teenage boys is horrifying not only because it was physically and emotionally traumatizing, but also because it was completely preventable," another attorney, Antonio M. Romanucci, said in a news release. "Coaches were aware of these gruesome hazing traditions and looked the other way."
Four students at Plainfield Central were charged with misdemeanors in connection with the incidents.
A spokesperson for Plainfield School District 202 says they won't comment on pending lawsuits.
