An Illinois group that supports immigrant rights is criticizing a U.S. Supreme Court decision that could clear the way for the Trump Administration to strip legal protections from Venezuelan migrants.

The high court has put on hold a lower court ruling that maintained "Temporary Protected Status" for Venezuelan migrants who came to the U-S after claiming they were not safe in their homeland.

Ana Gil Garcia is a founder of the Illinois Venezuelan Alliance, who says the Supreme Court ruling puts up to 11-thousand Venezuelan migrants in Illinois and many more around the U-S at greater risk of deportation.

Garcia accuses the Trump Administration of unfairly targeting Venezuelan migrants for deportation despite safety concerns.

In a statement, Homeland Security said the Supreme Court's decision will make communities safer.

The department also accused the Biden Administration of allowing poorly vetted migrants into the U-S.
